Hacks to Beat the Winter Dryness

Winter is finally here and so are the thick blankets out of those suitcases. The many glasses of coffee/ tea and plateful of bhajjis just don’t seem to do justice. While winters have these positives there are some cons that tag along with it – the biggest one being dry skin. Dry skin during winter is a common feature for all while for some it ends up getting too grave. Dry skin leads to dull looking skin, rashes and skin peel offs. While the TV is full of advertisements of various skin moisturising lotions, creams and moisturising face packs, here are some hacks right from mum’s kitchen to take care and moisturise your skin naturally!


  1. Coconut oil

Use some coconut oil from the brand of your choice and apply on the dry skin area or all over your skin. Keep massaging until it gets absorbed into the skin. Do not wash off the oil.


    Petroleum Jelly

Apply petroleum jelly all over your skin and keep massaging till it gets absorbed.


Petroleum jelly is affordable and easily available at any general or medical store. It is multipurpose and can be used for dry skin, dry lips and cracked heels. It has intense moisturising and healing property which helps in the recovery of skin. It works like magic!

Do not use if your skin is prone to breakouts.


  1. Papaya skin pack:

For this you would need:

  1. A piece of ripe papaya
  2. A banana
  3. 2 tablespoons of honey

Mix papaya pulp and banana together with lumps. Add 2 tablespoons of honey to it. Apply this paste on the dry and damaged skin area.


Papaya contains antioxidants and banana contains vitamins. Combined together it works as an anti-aging agent while honey helps in moisturising the skin. A combination of three helps in anti-ageing, makes your skin firm and helps in rejuvenating.


  1. Lemon and Honey mix

For this you need:

  1. Half a Lemon
  2. Two Tablespoon honey

Squeeze lemon juice from half a lemon and add on some honey to it. Mix both well and dab the solution on your face and skin with a cotton ball. Leave for 10-15 minutes and wash it off.


Lemon is rich in Vitamin C and honey helps in healing the itchy and dry skin. Both mixed together help in keeping the skin moisturised and glowing.


  1. Milk and almond face pack:

For this you would need:

  1. A tablespoon of powdered almond
  2. 2 tablespoon of raw milk

Mix Almond powder in raw milk and make a paste. Apply it on face and body and leave it for 10 mins. Massage gently while applying. Later, wash it off with lukewarm water.


Almond contains fatty acids and is rich in vitamin E, while milk moisturises the skin. A mix of both helps in reducing dryness and helps in softening the skin.

These are a few natural hacks to beat the winter dryness. So, don’t shy away this winter. Go out, let your skin breathe and say – HELLO WINTER!
