Knee pain is a very common medical condition that we see around us. The old, adults and even children experience it sometimes. Women are more vulnerable to knee pain than men.
Pain in the knees can be caused by weakened bone structure and wear and tear due to ageing. The person suffering from knee joint goes through symptoms like stiffness in the knee, noticeable swelling and redness, numbness in the affected leg and difficulty walking or standing.
Remedies for Knee Joint Pain
Rest: First thing is to take a break from any activity that may be causing pain. While taking rest you need to place a small pillow under your knee.
Ice: Ice will naturally reduce the pain and swelling in the area. Either wrap a handful of ice cubes in a towel or in a polythene bag and apply it directly to the affected area. Repeat it two or three times a day for better results.
Ginger: Ginger can reduce the pain and swelling in the knee due to the presence of anti-inflammatory compounds in it. Crush small piece of ginger, add 1 cup of water and boil it for 10 minutes, strain it, add honey and lemon juice to it. Drink 2- 3 times a day.
Neem Leaves: Neem is a herbal treatment for knee pain. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties it reduces swelling and pain. Boil handful of neem leaves and pour it in a vessel and dip a cloth and rub it on your knees. You could also massage your knees with neem oil which is effective in relieving joint pains.
Lemon: Lemon too acts like a pain reliever due to its citric acid content. Cut 1 or 2 lemons into small pieces, tie them up in cotton cloth and dip them in warm sesame oil and place them on the affected area for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat the process twice a day and see the benefit. Drinking lemon juice daily on an empty stomach is also quite healthy for your joints.
