Ideas to Beat the Heat This Summer

Summer is the hottest of the four seasons in India. During this season the days are longest and the nights are shortest. Summer is associated with incidence of health problems. So, here are some tips we suggest to help you beat the heat and avoid any health risks:

  1. Hydrate your Body

Drink lots of water, at least 12-14 glasses each day. Water does not have calories or organic nutrients, yet it is necessary to maintain the water composition in your body. Have frequent sips of water even if you are not thirsty to avoid dehydration. Lemonade is an excellent drink to keep you refreshed.

  1. Comfortable Clothing

Wear cotton clothes, loose fitting & full sleeves to protect you from the sun and to avoid excess sweating. Whenever you step out wear a cap/hat to protect your head from excess heat.

  1. Fruits

Eat fresh fruits. Keep munching on slices of cucumber, watermelon or drink tender coconut.

Cucumber: Cucumber is known as the summer vegetable and is a rich source of water. It should be consumed more to beat the heat and keep the body cool and hydrated.

Watermelon: As the name rightly includes “Water” in it, watermelon has 92% of water and electrolytes in it. Watermelon hydrates body and skin during excessive sweating and reduces the chances of dehydration.

Tender Coconut: It is one of the most refreshing natural drinks. It is excellent for rehydration and has cooling effects on your body. It contains electrolytes, vitamins & minerals too.

  1. Bathe Twice

It is essential to take bath twice a day during summer season if you tend to sweat profusely. It removes the salts deposited in our body due to sweat. Your skin becomes clear and you feel relaxed.

  1. Protection from the Heat
  • Use sunscreen lotion to avoid skin damage
  • Use umbrellas, sunglasses, helmets; cover yourself with gloves to avoid UV radiation
  • Use prickly heat powder to avoid rashes and burns
  • Use deodorants to overcome the smell due to perspiration

Avoid

  • We know this makes you unhappy! But chilled water from the refrigerator keeps you cool only momentarily, but has a lot of impact on your health. So avoid drinking it.
  • Avoid caffeine related liquids so you don’t get dehydrated.
  • Complete your outdoor activities before 10.30 am or after 5.30 pm.
